Book one: Through Fire & Sea features Leah from Fire World and Holly from Water World (our earth)
Book two: Amid Wind & Stone features two more otherselves Dorotea from Stone World (a dystopian world) and Audrey from Air World (steampunk)
Book three: In Truth & Ashes features Belinda from the True World and returns to Leah and Fire World.
Book one left Leah hanging. Will she get a Happy Ever After?
Yes. Leah is the main character for the series and appears in all three books. She will get her HEA in book three I promise.
If you’re in the middle of book one and considering putting the book down, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND skipping to the end and reading the last few paragraphs.
Miscellaneous FAQ
What happened to Besieged by Demons?
This series was supposed to be published starting with book one in Nov. 2014, however the publishers pulled the plug on the imprint. All rights have reverted to me and I am seeking another publisher.
How do you get any writing down with a toddler in the house?
Skimping on housework and two-hour naps mostly. (The toddler’s not my own.)
Except, of course, this month at age three my daughter has decided she no longer wants to nap. Sigh. So now I’m having to eke out time in smaller segments. For example, I put in half an hour of computer time while she slept in this morning, edited on paper while she played in the living room, and entered changes on my computer while she watched a movie. I hope to sneak in some more time this evening both while my husband looks after her and after her 9 pm bedtime. I get lazy (or involved in reading a good book) and miss some opportunities in a given day, but I usually get in at least two small sessions.
Kandrith series FAQ
How many Kandrith books are there in the series?
There are two books: Gate to Kandrith and the sequel Soul of Kandrith. I have no plans to write a third.
Why was Soul of Kandrith so much darker than book one?
Since this answer contains major spoilers for both book one and book two, I have hidden it here.
Dreamfire and Dreamline FAQ
What is the Narnia connection to Dreamfire and Dreamline?
I loved the Narnia books as a kid and read them over and over again.
In Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Lucy, Edmond, Eustace and Prince Caspian sail to various magical islands. They’re told that dreams come true on the dark island and so they sail off to find it, quite excited at the prospect. But when they get closer a man swims out to their boat and warns them that these are not those type of dreams–on the island nightmares come true. Prudently, the Dawn Treader sails away.
I confess, I was always a little bit disappointed that they sailed away without landing on the island. I wanted to see the dreams come true. And so years later I wrote my own book about a girl named Brianne whose nightmares came true and how she dealt with them.
How did you come up with the titles Dreamfire and Dreamline?
I have to credit my editor, Anita Daher, for the titles.
My original titles for the books were When Dreams Come True and Walpurgisnacht, respectively. When book one was accepted for publication, we decided that When Dreams Come True made it sound like the book was a romance–which it is not (though there is a romantic subplot…) We brainstormed for new titles and came up with Dreamfire. Anita also suggested Dreamline and I instantly said, “I like it, but for book two not book one.”
How many books are in the series?
Just two, Dreamfire and the sequel Dreamline.
Interestingly, there used to be a third book. It came in between and feature the third sister, Suzy. However, the plot wasn’t as strong as the other two, so I cannibalized all the parts I liked (such as Suzy’s sleepwalking) and stuck them in Dreamfire.
How long did it take you to write Dreamline?
Either thirteen months or twelve years, depending on how you count it.
I wrote the first and second drafts in 1988 when I was in highschool, but it sat on my shelf for a lot of years while I worked on dozens of other projects.
After book one, Dreamfire, sold I took out Dreamline and did a third draft from March to December 2010. (Actually, I pretty much threw out the earlier drafts, keeping only the characters and the parts I really liked, and started afresh.)
Who is the main character of Dreamline?
Lissa Foster. Lissa first showed up in Dreamfire as Brianne’s spooky little sister. In Dreamline eight years have passed and Lissa is in high school.
Literally a dream come true, Lissa was born with the ability to cross bodily into the world of dreams. She is very adept at molding and shaping dreams.
In school she’s an outcast who moves through the halls like a ghost. In Lissa’s words “I’d decided years ago I could either have friends or secrets, but not both.”
What are wulfdraigles?
Wulfdraigles are intelligent wolves who are trapped in the world of dreams. Made extinct by early humans, wulfdraigles feed on human fear and pain. They long to cross the dreamline back into our world and on Walpurgisnacht (April 30th) their time is coming…
